The minimum service charge

The minimum charge is for 3 hours of work with hourly rates. For a flat-rate charge, it is $350.

You can cancel your booking up to 72 hours before your scheduled move to receive a refund of your deposit. If you need to reschedule but no suitable availability exists for your new date, your booking will be canceled, and your deposit will be refunded in accordance with our cancellation policy. If availability allows, your deposit will be applied to the rescheduled appointment.

Please note that a minimum service fee equivalent to three hours of work or $350 in case of flat rate will apply in the following situations:

  1. If you cancel your move less than 72 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
  2. If our team has already arrived on-site and you decide to cancel the service for any reason, additional applicable fees may also be charged.

We reserve the right to cancel the service without refunding the deposit and to charge a three-hour minimum service fee or $350 in case of flat rate under the following circumstances:

  • The loading or unloading conditions are unsafe or unsanitary.
  • The customer creates a hostile work environment or behaves disrespectfully toward our staff.
  • The customer is not adequately prepared for the move.

In California, the “double drive time” rule is set by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and applies to licensed moving companies that charge by the hour.

Basically, double drive time means that you won’t be charged for the time it takes the moving company to drive from their warehouse to your starting location, or for the return trip to the warehouse after the move is done. However, these travel times are not included in your bill.

Instead, customers are required to pay double for the time spent on the “middle” part of the move, which refers to the actual travel between the starting point and destination. This time is billed at twice the regular rate.

The reason behind this rule is that it’s easier to calculate the travel time between your origin and destination, but more difficult to determine how long it will take to get to your origin from the warehouse or how long it takes to return to the warehouse after the move is finished.

Please make sure all drawers in your furniture are emptied and that any loose items are packed into boxes. It’s crucial that all furniture is completely empty before the move. If you think parking near your apartment might be an issue, we recommend obtaining moving permits. Parking as close to the entrance as possible will help the move go smoothly and prevent parking tickets.

Before the movers arrive, please remove, secure, or relocate valuable items such as jewelry, cash, watches, passports, and other small valuables. Movers are not allowed to handle or take responsibility for these items due to California moving regulations.

If furniture needs to be hoisted through a window, an extra fee will apply (this service applies to first and second floors only).

Please keep in mind that we are prohibited from transporting any cylinders or other containers that are pressurized or contain gases. So please make sure to disconnect them ahead of our arrival!

We are prohibited from transporting weapons, ammunition, and any other items that pose a danger, in any form, regardless of their configuration, readiness, or storage location.

An extra fee will also be charged for moving any item weighing over 200 pounds.
Non-reusable supplies (such as boxes, shrink wrap, tape, etc.) purchased from Fifty Pounds Moving Company will be billed separately. The rate does not include the cost of packing supplies.

If you have not requested packing services, please make sure all boxes are packed and ready for transport when the movers arrive. Movers cannot transport small, unpackaged items. This includes pictures, paintings, lampshades, and similar items – they must be packed in boxes. The movers are not responsible for packing items like pictures, lamps, mirrors, and others that require boxing but have not been packed ahead of time.

If our team works more than 8 hours but no more than 12 hours, the additional time will be billed at 50% of your hourly rate. If our team works for more than 12 hours, the additional time will be billed at 100% of your hourly rate.
